Back to School Tax Free Shopping Days 2010

The first day of school is fast approaching which means school supplies are flying off the shelves!  Wouldn’t it be nice to not have to pay sales tax on those school supplies?  Well, each year select states offer an extra incentive to shop on certain days by havings sales tax-free shopping days!  While that means only an $8.25 savings on a $100 purchase here in my great state of Texas, every little bit helps!

Here are the tax-free shopping dates:

Alabama: August 6 – 8
Clothing up to $100, computers -up to $750, school supplies – up to $50, books- up to $30

Connecticut: August 15 – 21
Clothing & footwear – up to $300

Florida: August 13 – 15
Clothing & books – up to $50, school supplies – up to $10

Illionois: August 6 – 15
Clothing, footwear and school supplies – up to $100

Iowa: August 6 – 7
Clothing – up to $100

Louisana: August 6 – 7
All taxable products – up to $2,500

Maryland: August 8 – 14
Clothing & footwear – up to $100

Mississippi: July 30 – 31
Clothing & footwear – up to $100

Missouri: August 6 – 8
Clothing – up to $100, computers – up to $3,500, school supplies – up to $50

New Mexico: August 6 – 8
Clothing – up to $100, computers – up to $1,000, school supplies – up to $15

North Carolina: August 6 – 8
Clothing – up to $100, school supplies – up to $100, instructional material – up to $300, computers – up to $3,500, other comp. – up to $250, sports equipment – up to $50

Oklahoma: August 6 – 8
Clothing – up to $100

South Carolina: August 6 – 8
Clothing, school supplies, computers, other

Tennessee: August 6 – 8
Clothing – up to $100, school supplies – up to $100, computers – up to $1,500

Texas: August 20 – 22
Clothing, backpacks, school supplies – up to $100

Virginia: August 6 – 8
Clothing – up to $100, school supplies -up to $20
