Upromise: Save Money for College

I finally signed up for Upromise! I can’t believe I waited so long, it was very easy to sign up! Now that I’ve joined I just couldn’t wait to share with you! You are going to LOVE Upromise!

Upromise is a free program that pays you to shop online through their links and when using your grocery and drugstore loyalty cards. The money you earn is put into a Upromise College Savings Account, then you can decide whether you want to let it grow tax free in a 529 plan or if you want to request a check for college expenses! Such an easy way to get free money for college!

There are several ways to save:

Shop Online: You can earn 1 – 25% by shopping online through Upromise. Just go to the Upromise site, click through to any retailer, make an eligible purchase and pay any way you like. Savings are automatically deposited into your Upromise account!

Eat at Participating Restaurants: Earn up to 8% when you eat out as a Preferred Diner. First, register your credit or debit cards on the Upromise site. Eat out at nearly 9,000 participating restaurants nationwide when they are offering college savings and pay with a credit/debit card you’ve registered with Upromise. Save up to 8% of your total bill – including tax & tip!

Shop at Grocery and Drug Stores: Save when you buy everyday basics! First, register your grocery and drugstore loyalty cards. Purchase participating items and scan your registered grocery or drugstore card at checkout. You’ll earn savings on thousands of eligible items at participating grocery and drug store locations nationwide.

Use e-Coupons: Select the coupons you want to use on the Upromise site. Then when you buy the participating products at the store the value of th e-coupons will be added to your Upromise account! So, instead of the coupon taking money off your grocery bill, it adds money to your college savings account! Plus, you can still use a manufacturer’s coupon when using an e-coupon! The e-coupons are updated monthly with a value of up to $25!

Invite Family and Friends: Inviting family and friends is one of the best ways to increase your Upromise savings. When they join they can choose to have their savings automatically transfer to you. They can even decide what percent of their savings to share! Members who have family and friends helping them save earn over 2x as much as members who don’t!

Since I have two kids to put through college I’m very excited about this program! So, what are you waiting for? Sign up now with Upromise to start saving!

I was enrolled at one time in the Upromise program (about 10-15 years ago), but quit receiving information and statement. I had forgotten about it until I saw this. What happened to the money that accrued in my account? Please advise.

  2. This is soo awesome! I feel I have been bumbared with information from this site. I have been inspired by Extreme couponing (show on TLC and sites like this) to save money. I would just be happy to have $25 on my weekly $100 grocery trip each week, but with the information pouring from this website, I believe I can save so much more with a little bit of effort! Thanks so much for all the great info.

  3. I want to put money towards my niece and nephew’s college and right now I just opened a savings account solely for the both of them (they’re in elementary school) and am planning to surprise them with a check each when they graduate.
I’m reading the website right now and it says:
“After the purchase is verified, the money is deposited into your Upromise account. Then, once you’ve accumulated $25, you have choices to… request a check directly from Upromise to cover school expenses or invest on your own. ”
Does that mean that for each $25 accumulated, I have to get a check from them and then transfer it into my own savings account? It sounds too good to be true.

  4. I’m so excited about this! I just signed up. If I understand, I can purchase the party supplies I was already intending to buy for my child, get 4% toward Upromise, and save $10 with the promo code on Upromise.com! I’m thrilled to start saving!

  5. I just signed up for U-Promise last November. I can’t believe I waited so long either!! This is a great program and if you have kids (or nieces/nephews or granchildren) you should definitely sign up. You can even sign up and start saving when you are pregnant or sooner! We also opened a 529 college fund and linked it to the U-Promise account. Every quarter the money from U-Promise will automatically be deposited into the 529. How easy is that?

  7. Kathy,

I’m so glad you are wanting to save money! It’s so easy to do and there are so many ways to do it!

Once you have registered your Kroger card with Upromise go to the homepage. On the left-hand side there is a navigation bar, click on eCoupons. Then select the coupons you want and click activate coupons on the right-hand side. Just remember that the Upromise coupons will not deduct the coupons from your grocery bill, it will add the coupon value to your Upromise savings account.

That’s it! Then just watch for a deal on those items with Upromise coupons in order to save even more!
