6 Free Job Sites to Check Out if You’re Looking for Work

If you’re out of work due to COVID-19, you aren’t alone. Millions of Americans are in the same position. With record unemployment, applying for jobs may seem futile. But don’t lose hope! While you’re unlikely to see job postings in hard-hit industries like tourism and restaurants, many employers are actively hiring in response to the pandemic. There are still lots of job openings if you know where to look for them.

Some job sites charge subscription fees to give you access to their job listings. But thankfully, you don’t have to fork over your hard-earned money to find work. These six job posting sites let you look for jobs without spending a dime!

Indeed

Indeed has millions of job listings, but it is so much more than that. It is also a rich source of other career information, like salary information, career guides, and resume advice. Additionally, the site has a lot of resources that focus specifically on COVID-19, including tips for working from home, links to job resources by state, and more.

Indeed’s job listings have been adjusted to include must-know information about whether the position can be filled remotely during COVID-19. You can even filter your results so you only see options that are home-based for the time being.

ZipRecruiter

ZipRecruiter has countless job listings. If you prefer to apply for jobs in bulk, it also has a convenient 1-click apply option. However, don’t forget to go into your “Applied Jobs” section to add a cover letter to make your applications more personal.

This site is also chock-full of COVID-19 features. Some employers leave up job postings even when they’re not urgently hiring, but ZipRecruiter has asked employers to confirm whether they’ll extend offers during COVID-19. These listings are marked with “Actively Hiring During COVID-19.” The site also has articles on working from home, building your resume, and more.

SimplyHired

SimplyHired is owned by the same company as Indeed, but it has a slightly different format that some job seekers might enjoy. A section at the top of each listing includes the required education and skills along with the job benefits, making it easier to decide quickly whether it might be right for you. Listings also include an estimated pay range.

If you need a little help preparing to apply for jobs, the site also has guides to resumes, cover letters, interviewing, and careers.

CareerBuilder

CareerBuilder is another popular job site that has responded to the pandemic with new resources. You can look at some of the industries that are hiring most right now and access helpful job search tips. Plus, if you prefer to work remotely during the pandemic, you can filter your search results so that you only see work-from-home options.

Glassdoor

Glassdoor is a job search site with a twist. In addition to looking at listings, job hunters can peruse reviews that employees have left of the companies. This can give you an inside look at what it might be like to work for the company. The site also has salary information, questions that interviewers have asked, and more to help you in your job search.

Glassdoor also has special features that may come in handy during COVID-19. Job listings labeled with “Hiring Surge” have particularly high demand. You can also look at remote jobs by entering “remote” into the “location” field.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is the premier career networking website. With a free membership, you can connect with professionals in your field, join groups, and search for jobs. LinkedIn also posts articles related to working during COVID-19, including news and tips. To search for remote jobs, just enter “remote” into the location field. Paid LinkedIn subscriptions are available and include additional features.
