Affordable Ways to Beat the Heat This Summer

The summer’s heating up! But while the heat can be a great excuse to get outside and have some fun, it can also be super uncomfortable. If you get tired of sweating and need a cool break, try some of these affordable ways to beat the summer heat.

Run Through the Sprinklers

It’s a classic summer activity for a reason! If you’re using sprinklers to water your lawn anyway, you and your family might as well use the water to cool off before it soaks into the ground. Not only is running through the sprinklers cooling, it can also provide fun family memories.

Take a Stroll Through a Big Store

Big stores like Walmart, Target, and Costco are often well air conditioned, so you can take a comfortable walk while perusing the aisles for bargains. Plus, getting out of your house can keep the temperature lower since your body heat won’t contribute.

Hit a Local Swimming Hole

Whether you head to a river, stream, lake, pond, or the ocean, going for a swim can be a fun way to cool off. Not only that, many communities have public parks where you can swim for free, so you don’t even have to spend any money.

Take Cold Showers

Taking a cold shower can help lower your body temperature, but your budget will also thank you. After all, if you’re showering in cold water, you can save the money it would ordinarily cost to heat that water. Plus, you might end up taking shorter showers, so your water bill could also plummet.

Relax in the Basement

Heat rises. That means that if your house has a basement, it may very well be the coolest part of your house. Hanging out in the basement can be an easy way to keep cool without spending a dime.

Don’t Run Appliances Unnecessarily

Appliances let off heat, so try not to use them unless you need them. For instance, turn off your computer when you’re not using it. Only have your TV on if you’re watching it. Don’t run your washer, dryer, or dishwasher unless they’re full or you really need to. Little steps like these can reduce the heat your appliances let off and keep you cooler.

With these tricks, you can enjoy a cool, comfortable summer!
