Being Intentional With My Time, Finances, and Food – My Goals for 2012

I shared on the Couponing 101 Facebook page recently that my word for 2012 is “intentional”. Despite making lots of goals, I tend to struggle with controlling my day-to-day actions to reach my desired goals.

I find it pretty funny that I’m writing this post about my desire to be intentional about 2 weeks past it’s due date……I’m a work in progress. 😉

I really love making goals. I tend to set a lot of goals, but I rarely meet all my goals. I let “life” distract me.

This year I’m going to (and I mean I’m REALLY going to) be intentional about meeting my goals and living my life.

I have a lot few specific areas I want to work on:

1. Being Intentional About What We Eat – Goodbye fast food. Fast food is so convenient, and so tasty, but there really just isn’t room in our budget or diet for it. Hopefully by meal planning and staying home more, we’ll be able to curb our cravings for fast food and officially break up with Chick-fil-A.

2. Being Intentional With Our Time – As a work-at-home-mom, my days tend to run together. I wake up and start my day and before I know it, it’s time for dinner and I’m wondering where the day went! I’ve set myself a loose schedule (I’m really bad with tight schedules, so I’m hoping a loose/flexible one will work) that will help me set work hours. So far, the schedule is working! I’m on week four of working out daily, I’m making consistent progress in my Bible reading plan, meeting my reading goals, and even meeting some work goals! My cleaning system needs some improvement though….

3. Being Intentional With Our Finances – This year meant some pretty scary financial changes for us so we’ve had to buckle down and look really hard at what we’re spending. Earlier this month I bought the Dave Ramsey Money Education Bundle (no longer available) and we’ve been working through the book and DVDs. I am SO glad I got this. I really thought I’d hear a lot of things I already knew, but it has really made us focus and given us a lot to think about. We just set up our zero-based cash flow plan and our cash envelopes for February – I’m nervous but excited!

I’m hoping that by setting these focused goals that 2012 is going to be a wonderful year for our family! A happy and stress-free mommy means a happy and stress-free family, right?

New Year, New You Series

I’ve teamed up with five other bloggers to share our goals for the new year, and hopefully inspire and encourage you to do the same!  In the next few weeks I’ll be highlighting and sharing all the New Year, New You posts from the other bloggers which include topics like reducing sugar in the kitchen, meal planning, weight loss, food allergies, and much more!

What is your word for 2012? Do you make yearly goals or resolutions?

  • I love your word, "intentional" and it describes my NEW start to 2012 exactly. Though I have fallen off the band wagon this week, I have been doing the flylady baby steps and my house looks so much better. I'm sure you have heard of this but for me it is really helping me with my new start which was to be a better house wife though I do work outside of the home. My cleaning system needed a huge revamp and this was my #1 intentional (love this word) goal for 2012. Thanks for writing this, it is good to know I'm not the only one with intentional goals for 2012.
