Where to Get the Best Senior Discounts

Some people think that wisdom is the main benefit of getting older, but we beg to differ. With so many restaurants offering senior discounts, we think that saving money is almost as valuable. By presenting an AARP membership card, joining a special club, or merely asking for a senior discount, you might be able to save money on your restaurant bills. If you ask us, that’s a great excuse to order dessert!

While many restaurants offer senior discounts, some are better than others. The following deals are some of our favorites:

  • Applebee’s – 10-15% off (some locations may require a Golden Apple Card)
  • Arby’s – Varies by location, but might be a 10% discount or free small drink with purchase
  • Bonefish Grill – 10% off with AARP membership (valid on food and nonalcoholic beverages; dine-in only)
  • Ben & Jerry’s – 10% off
  • Carrabba’s Italian Grill – 10% off with AARP membership (valid on food and nonalcoholic beverages; dine-in only)
  • Chick-fil-A – Varies by location, but might be a 10% discount or free small drink with purchase
  • Chili’s – 10% off
  • Dairy Queen – Varies by location, but might be a 10% discount or free small drink with purchase
  • Denny’s – 15% off with AARP membership
  • McDonald’s – Discounted beverages
  • Outback Steakhouse – 10% off with AARP membership (valid on food and nonalcoholic beverages; dine-in only)
  • Rainforest Cafe – 10% off with AARP membership (valid on food and nonalcoholic beverages)
  • Taco Bell – 5%-10% off and free beverage

Discounts may vary by location, so you might want to contact a restaurant near you to see what senior discounts they offer. What age qualifies you as a “senior” also varies between restaurants, though it is generally between 55 and 65. Check with the restaurant to find out if you qualify. You may be asked to present your ID to verify your age.

Additionally, this list isn’t comprehensive; you can find senior discounts at lots of other restaurants, including some locally-owned establishments. The next time you’re at your favorite restaurant, you might want to ask if they offer a senior discount.
