CVS & Walgreens Scenarios for Beginner’s – No Coupons Necessary!

This is a really great week to start couponing….even if you don’t have any coupons!

I know I have a lot of you are new to my site and couponing and that you may not have accumulated many coupons yet.  I’m going to show you how to get some great deals at Walgreens and CVS without needing any coupons to start!

I know it may be intimidating to do several transactions at once, but doing several transactions will result in you paying less. Don’t worry! If there are other people waiting in line just move to the back of the line after each transaction. This will give you time to go over your receipt and make sure everything rang up correctly.

CVS has Softsoap Scrub and Colgate Toothpaste Free After Extra Bucks.

First you need to go into CVS and sign up for an Extra Care Card. Then pick up the weekly sale flier at the front of the store and locate the Free Softsoap offer on the front page and the Free Colgate offer on the fifth page so you can see what you need to look for. Then pick out (1) Softsoap Scrub Body Wash and (2) Colgate Enamel Protect Toothpaste, Sensitive Whitening Toothpaste, OR Sensitive Toothbrush.

The cashier should ask for your Extra Care Card before scanning any of your items. You need to use your own card to get the ECBs (Extra Care Bucks – CVS Money).

1st Transaction

(1) Colgate Toothpaste or Toothbrush $3.99
Pay: $3.99 + tax

ECB for $3.99 will print at the bottom of your receipt. Tear or cut it off.

2nd Transaction

(1) Colgate Toothpaste or Toothbrush $3.99
Give the cashier the $3.99 ECB you just tore off your receipt from the 1st transaction
Pay: $0 + tax

ECB for $3.99 will print at the bottom of your receipt. Tear or cut it off.

3rd Transaction

(1) Softsoap Body Wash $4.99
Give the cashier the $3.99 ECB you just tore off your receipt from the 2nd transaction
Pay: $1 + tax

ECB for $4.99 will print at the bottom of your receipt. Tear or cut it off and save it for next week!

So, for just $4.99 + tax you now have 1 bodywash and 2 toothpaste/toothbrushes and $4.99 ECBs to use later! Keep your ECBs in your wallet or an envelope in your purse so you don’t lose them – they are just as good as money at CVS!

First you need to go into Walgreens and pick up the weekly sale flier at the front of the store. You do not need any kind of reward card for Walgreens. Not all the deals will be in the ad, but you should have it anyway. Pick out (1) Chapstick Naturals Lip Balm (not in the ad), (1) Scunci Elastics 18 pk (pg 6), (1) Fiber Choice 10ct Tablets (pg 9), and (1) Colgate Max White or Max Fresh Toothbrush (back page).

1st Transaction:

(1) Chapstick Naturals $1.99
Pay $1.99 + tax

A coupon called a Register Reward will print out after you pay (be patient!) for $2 off your next purchase of anything (except the chapstick!).

2nd Transaction

(1) Scunci $2
Give the cashier the $2 Register Reward you earned from the 1st transaction
Pay: $0 + tax

Earn another $2 Register Reward

3rd Transaction

(1) Fiber Choice $2.49
Give the cashier the $2 Register Reward you earned from the 2nd transaction
Pay 49¢ + tax

Earn a $2.50 Register Reward

4th Transaction

(1) Colgate Toothbrush $3.29
Give the cashier the $2.50 Register Reward you earned from the 3rd transaction
Pay: 79¢ + tax

Earn a $3.50 Register Reward

So, for just $3.27 + tax you now have 1 Lip Balm, 1 Hair Elastics, 1 Fiber Tablets, 1 Toothbrush and $3.50 Register Rewards to use later! Keep your Rewards in your wallet or an envelope in your purse so you don’t lose them – they are just as good as money at Walgreens! Don’t forget about them because they will expire in 2 weeks. If you are afraid of forgetting about them you can go ahead and use them now to buy something you need like toilet paper or paper towels.

These deals are valid through Saturday, April 18th.

  1. I was in Walgreens today and they had some of the 18ct scunci elastics on clearance for $1.49 they also give they $2RR so its a 50 cent moneymaker. They are not at all walgreens though because I stopped at another to check and they were the regular sale price. Anyways you might want to check the clearance before you buy some. Also I had one of the employees asking questions about the RR’s. Even though she worked there, whe didnt know how to get them or use them. She was fairly impressed with the whole process.

  2. I just did this today at CVS and used the coupons I had for the body wash and toothpaste so I could get something else and it worked perfectly! Thanks! Oh and the employee told me this is how it should be done to take full advantage. 🙂

  3. I have to agree with what Stephanie said about the looks and stuff. I was in wal-mart today and it took a few mins. to do my coupons and someone behind me asked how many do you have, and all I say was I don’t know then he asked well how much did you save and I said I don’t know. So when you get the looks and stares just ignore them and be proud to use your coupons.

  4. Ann,

I use the coupon databases at hotcouponworld.com and afullcup.com.

    Melissa,

Yes, if you were to do one single transaction you would get all the same rewards. One of each reward will print per transaction. You cannot use that reward to buy that same item – for example, you can’t use the toothbrush reward to buy another toothbrush.

    The exclusions on the reward:
Excludes prescriptions and items prohibited by law. Also excludes tobacco, alcoholic beverages, sales tax, lottery tickets, money orders/transfers, transportation passes, postage stamps, dairy, prescription savings club membership, health care services, and gift/phone/prepaid cards.

I don’t see photo processing on there so I guess you could use them!

    Amy,

I never feel guilty about giving a store my business. They should be happy I’m there! lol. I rarely encounter rude employees, and when I do I just try to ignore them. I’m a very timid/shy person, but when it comes to couponing I’ve learned to stand up for myself and ignore the people who have nothing better to do than make a fuss about my coupons.

  5. I have just started figuring out the register rewards program @ Walgreens and have been doing the rebates since they began. I usually do one transaction and then try to make it back to a different Walgreens to use the RR’s maybe twice a week.

My question is about the multiple transactions. I get enough looks and comments just doing one. How do you deal with the dirty looks from employees and other customers? Do you ever feel guilty? I know they are advertising the items as free, but I feel so guilty actually getting them free…Does that make sense?

  6. Another newbie here! I appreciate the detail of this post. A few newbie questions though:
Will you get the same number of Register Rewards if you were to purchase all of these things in one transaction? Or do you just get a single RR for each transaction?
Can the RR be used for anything at Walgreens typically? I am specifically interested in knowing if they can be used towards photo processing.

  7. Is there a place to go to find out where I should look for specific coupons? For example, if I want to make tacos, where do I look to find which publication on which date I can find coupons for canned tomatoes, flour tortillias, shredded cheese etc? Right now, I am just looking through all of the SS and RP etc. that I have had for months just to see if I can find what I need.
