Save Money with Twitter!

twitter

Twitter is a free social networking service for friends, family, and co-workers to stay connected in real time by reading each others updates, known as tweets. Tweets are posts of up to 140 characters displayed on your page and delivered to your subscribers – known as followers.  Information from Wikipedia – read more about Twitter.

Basically it is like a huge chat room!  Though you can select whose updates you want to see.  I really love using Twitter to chat with other bloggers.  If I have a question I can post it on Twitter and have a reply in minutes!  It has also given me the opportunity to meet some amazing people and develop friendships.

Many companies have started using Twitter for marketing because they can reach thousands of people with Twitter’s free service.  Companies have started posting deals, coupon codes, and offers specifically for Twitter followers.  One of my favorite websites, Swagbucks, has been posting limited time Swagcodes all week!  Since I’m a follower I have earned an additional 4 Swagbucks this week!  You can follow them here: @Swagbucks.

Another company offering Twitter followers incentives is @PizzaHut!  They’ve promised followers a special code for Free Stuffed Pizza Rolls on July 4, 2009!  You can also take advantage of their offer on Facebook.

To get the most out of Twitter you definitely need to be following people and have others following you!  Here is a great list of the Top 30 Deal Hunters You Should be Following on Twitter (including yours truly)!  You can also follow your favorite companies, brands, and websites.  Most websites will have their twitter link or name listed somewhere on their site.  Grocery Price Blog has a long list of Manufacturers on Twitter as well as a list of Celebrities on Twitter!

Of course, you actually have to use Twitter to get anything out of it.  I use Tweetdeck, a program that displays all my friends tweets, replies, and direct messages on a single screen.  I leave it running in the background while I work, and it alerts me when someone posts an update or sends me a message.  It is very easy to use and also completely free.

By following the deal bloggers and manufacturers from those lists you can have access to exclusive coupon codes and be some of the first to find out about hot deals!

Don’t forget to follow me HERE!  Send me an @ reply and I’ll follow you back!

  1. Thank you Stephanie! I signed up to follow all 30 people on Twitter! I am going to be a busy lady! I’m worried it might be too much, but I’ll just do the best I can. I plan to start my own site after I look at everyone else’s and also learn how to do it. This is a lot of fun! And thanks for the heads-up on the Bumble Bee coupon. I got it and used it! 🙂

By the way, I love your site and I love getting deals! I’ve been working on it for a few months, but I’m just now starting to hit my stride. I was avoiding twitter but I want the Bumble bee tuna coupons!! ha ha!!

  3. Mary,

If you hover your mouse over any person’s tweet you will see an arrow curved back on the right side of the post. You click on the arrow to reply to that person. Or you can just type in the person’s twitter name with the @ symbol in front of it. So if you wanted to send me a tweet, you would post a tweet with @couponing101 somewhere in it.
