Affordable Fall Fun Your Family Can Enjoy This Weekend!

Fall is in full swing, but winter will soon be upon us. If the weather is still nice where you are, now is a perfect time to get out and enjoy nature before cold weather sets in. And with beautiful fall leaves adding vibrant colors, Mother Nature is offering up an abundant source of free family fun. Going for a colorful walk, picking up your favorite leaves, preserving them, and using them to decorate your home can provide hours of fun. We’ll share our tips for an affordable, fun activity below.

Go for a Walk in Your Favorite Park

You probably already know of some beautiful parks near you. These parks are the perfect place to go for a fall walk. If you decide to go on a longer walk, you might want to ensure the walk is fun for the whole family by bringing snacks, choosing easy paths, and dressing appropriately.

Collect Pretty Leaves You Find on the Ground

As you walk, you and your family can look for particularly beautiful leaves on the ground and collect your favorites. Not only does this provide supplies to use for additional activities, but it also gives children a goal for the walk.

Press the Leaves in Wax Paper

When you arrive home, preserve your favorite leaves using wax paper. To do so, place the leaf between two pieces of wax paper. Place a towel over the wax paper. Then, gently press with a warm iron until the wax paper adheres to itself. If pressing the leaves isn’t up your alley, you might also try other crafts that use fall leaves.

Cut Out the Leaves and Decorate with Them

Once you have pressed the leaf successfully, you can cut it out. Simply leave enough of a margin to prevent the wax paper from losing its seal. Then, you can use your sealed leaves to decorate. You might stick them to your wall or hang them like a garland to add some fall color into your home.

Your affordable fall fun doesn’t have to end there. After your busy day, you may want to curl up under a blanket and enjoy some hot apple cider.
