Tips for Saving on School Supplies Through the Year

Once you have all your kid’s supplies for the school year, you probably feel pretty satisfied. You can check that off your to-do list and move on to something else. But the school year is just starting, and your child is sure to run out of things in no time. So how can you save money on the additional school supplies you need throughout the year? Here are our tips to keep your kid rolling in #2 pencils without spending an arm and a leg.

Stock Up at the Beginning of the Year

Just before school starts, stores run some pretty awesome sales on school supplies. These sales are a terrific opportunity to buy everything you think you might need during the year. You might stock up on extra notebooks, pencils, and whatever else you think your child might use up during the year.

Hit Dollar Stores

If you don’t have room to store extra school supplies, don’t worry! Dollar stores often have good deals on school supplies all year. For instance, the Dollar Tree often has pens, pencils, paper, and other supplies for only a dollar. Read our guide to saving at Dollar Tree to learn more about finding deals at the popular store.

Reuse

It’s hard to throw away perfectly good school supplies at the end of the school year, so you might have partially used notebooks, crayons, glue, and other supplies lying around your house. If you do, you’re in luck! When your child runs out of something during the school year, just replace it with something leftover from a previous school year.

Buy Generic

Name brand school supplies are great, but they’re not always on sale. If you need school supplies during the school year, you might find that generic supplies are cheaper. Store brands are often very similar to name brands at a fraction of the cost. When you shop for school supplies during the year, don’t forget to give the generic brands an extra look!
