Unauthorized Coupons & E-Coupon Policy Update

I’ve expressed my feelings before about being an honest couponer and I want my blog to reflect that. If I feel that a coupon is not legitimate I will not be posting it. But, I know that illegitimate coupons are found all over the web and it’s not always easy to tell them apart from the legitimate ones. So, while I was wary and chose not to post a link to a great- but illegally distributed – printable coupon, I know it wasn’t hard for others to come across it and believe it to be legitimate. Read The Thrifty Mama’s post with an excellent explanation on why this coupon and all other illegal coupons should not be used. I am very thankful to her for stepping up and saying something about it!

I also want to thank Andrea at Mommy Snacks for passing along some information about E-coupon policy. Everyone has always believed that you can use a paper coupon and an e-coupon on one item – and you can. BUT, it’s not allowed. Apparently, it has never been allowed but no one knew. I understand why they wouldn’t want you to but I don’t understand how it could be avoided. If I were to load my card with a 50¢/1 e-coupon in preparation of using it at the store but later found a paper coupon for Cottonelle and wanted to use it instead, what do I do? The e-coupon is going to come off my bill whether I want it to or not. So, should I just forgo the better savings of using the paper coupon? Maybe E-coupons will soon have all of this sorted out.
