  1. Something I saw today. Walgreens has Dryel refills and starter pack on sale for 5.99 this week. If you go to the Dryel website, you can download a $2 off coupon = 3.99. Just thought I would share.

  2. I’m going to try to coupon at walgreens for the first time today and I have a question. What happens to the overages (ex: free + $2.00 profit) do you get to spend that money on the rest of your groceries or do they give you the money back or does it just disappear?

    • @Megan, If the profit is gained by receiving a RR (Register Reward), then you get a printed out manufacturer coupon from the catalina machine at the register *after* your entire transaction is completed, which you use the next time you come back. They’re good for about 2 weeks before they expire; essentially it’s a $2.00 bill (using your example) that you use as payment for any one item the next time you come in.

However, if you have “overage” when using a coupon, then you need another item in your cart that will be paid for with the overage. For example, if I have a coupon for those butterfinger snackers @ 0.39 each using the in ad coupon combined with my $1.00 any 2 manufacturer coupon, then I buy 3 of them ($1.17 less the $1 coupon means, $.17 for all 3). If you try it without the extra one and they end up thinking they owe you money, bad things happen. Okay, maybe not bad things, but they freak out and you end up grabbing the closest thing you can find and don’t get as much value out of your spending $.

Best thing I can tell you is to always make sure you have the same number of items as you have manufacturer coupons (currently $0.50 for a pop tart 2-pack is a good “filler” item) and always give them the in-ad coupons or monthly coupon booklet coupons at the very end.

Here is a great post from Stephanie on shopping at “Wags”. https://www.couponing101.com/2008/11/walgreens-101.html
